Climb to Yanartaş

Eternal flames that have risen of their own accord from between the rocks for thousands of years. After sunset, reach the fire with a half-hour climb; on the way back, stretch out in a hammock and watch the stars.

Yanartaş (Chimaera) is reached via a roughly 3.5 km walking trail from the village, and sits 230 metres above sea level — the home of natural flames that have burned without stopping from between the rocks for thousands of years. Associated in mythology with the monster Chimaera slain by Bellerophon, this site has guided sailors since Antiquity.

Climbing in the dark after sunset and spending half an hour by the flames is one of the unforgettable highlights of any stay in Çıralı. You can also go during the day, but the flames are far more dramatic in the dark of night. Sturdy walking shoes and a torch are all you need.
